それより九郎介は又みさきを口説こうとするが聞き入れず、あまつさえ父母に告げたので、この家にもいられず、ある夜蔵へ忍び入り金子を盗み出し、駆け落ちする。あの目論見のために大分苦労をした。あわびの貝の片思いに、憎さも憎し。この金と、この中に質に入れた宝物の当て[代金]と合わせて五六百両。
「これからおれが好きな色里の裏へでも引っ込んで暮らそう。ハハア、それよ。」

こうして守の丞は父の不興を受け、宝はありかが分かっても取り戻すべき金子もなく、ただ憎いのは九郎介を思えども、これも行方知れず。[ここより五行ほどかすれ]どうすべき[手立て]もなく、[困り果てて]いると、みさきが方へ又色男となってきて、金の工面を頼む。
「必ず苦労はかけません。どうぞ何とか方法がありましょう。このご苦労もみな私のせいです。勘弁してください。」

「この身になって顔を合わすのも恥ずかしいけれども、やって来ました。くれぐれもお願いします。」

After that, Kurōsuke tried to seduce Misaki again, but she wouldn't listen to him. Moreover, she told her parents about it, so he could no longer stay in that house. One night he snuck into the storehouse, stole money, and eloped. He had gone to great trouble for his scheme. Like the one-sided love of an abalone shell, his hatred was bitter. This money, combined with the proceeds from the treasures he had pawned, totaled five or six hundred ryō.
"Now I'll retreat to the back alleys of my favorite pleasure quarter and live it up. Haha, that's the way!"

Meanwhile, Mori-no-jō, having incurred his father's displeasure, knew where the treasures were but had no money to retrieve them. The only one he could hate was Kurōsuke, but he too had disappeared without a trace. [Text becomes unclear for about five lines] With no means to do anything and at his wit's end, he came to Misaki's place again as a lover, asking her to arrange for money.
"I definitely won't cause you trouble. Surely there must be some way. All this hardship is because of me. Please forgive me."
