水痘（すいとう）はへいないもといふ痘（いも）に似（に）て出（いづ）るにやすくかせ

することを禁ずる。麻疹が出る時、もとより腹痛や下痢をし、あるいは自利といって大便を意識せずに通じるものがあり、もしくは赤白の痢病を兼ねるものがある。これらは皆悪性である。急いで良医の治療を受けるべきである。麻疹が出る時は吐き気をするものである。小児であれば乳を吐くものである。
しかしながら麻疹が出尽くせば吐き気も自然に止むものである。
また出尽くしても吐き気が止まない症状もあり、これは悪性である。慎むべきである。
麻疹が出て色が紅色であるのは吉症である。また紫黒色は共に死症である。ただ保養を第一とする。とかく風寒を避けるべきである。軽いものは四十九日を待って禁忌を解くべきである。

水痘の心得の事
水痘は「へいない」とも言い、痘瘡に似て出やすく乾きやすい。初めて出る際、潤いを持って水を含んでいるゆえに水痘という。全身にほぼ出て二三日を待たず、始終五六日にしてその瘡は水膿ばかりとなって治まる。治療・禁忌のことは痘瘡・麻疹と変わることはない。その中で痘瘡は一生涯に一度するものであって、水痘は二三度もするものがある。痘瘡は五臓の中より起こり、麻疹・水痘はただ六腑より発するものである。

All of these are malignant conditions. One should urgently seek treatment from a good physician. When measles emerge, there is nausea and vomiting. In small children, they vomit milk.
However, once the measles have fully emerged, the vomiting will naturally stop.
There are also symptoms where vomiting does not stop even after full emergence, which is malignant. One should be cautious.
When measles emerge and the color is red, this is a good sign. Purple-black color indicates a fatal condition. Simply prioritize rest and care above all. In any case, one should avoid wind and cold. For mild cases, wait forty-nine days before lifting the prohibitions.

Knowledge about chickenpox
Chickenpox is also called "heinai" and resembles smallpox, emerging easily and drying easily. When it first appears, it contains moisture and holds water, hence it is called chickenpox. It appears almost all over the body, and without waiting two or three days, within five or six days total, the sores become only watery pus and subside. The treatment and prohibitions are no different from smallpox and measles. Among these, smallpox occurs once in a lifetime, while chickenpox may occur two or three times. Smallpox arises from within the five organs, while measles and chickenpox arise only from the six bowels.
