薬も必要ないほどである。重症になれば薬も効かないことがある。病気にかかってから三日、五日、十五日の間である。初めて疱瘡患者に熱がある時は、その心得を忘れず注意することが第一である。いよいよ疱瘡らしくなれば、その人の目の中に涙がたまってまどろんでいるようである。両足が立たないこともある。腹中に通う熱をよく考えて知るべきである。見方や考え方を以下に記す。介抱人は老女で経験豊富な者が良い。よくよく疱瘡患者の様子を昼夜詳しく観察しておいて、良い医師に報告し、油断なく看病すれば、たとえ難しい疱瘡であっても少しも生命に心配はなく、完治することは疑いない。

When a smallpox patient first develops fever, remembering this knowledge and paying attention is of primary importance. When it truly appears to be smallpox, tears will pool in the person's eyes and they will appear drowsy. Sometimes both legs cannot stand. One should carefully consider and understand the fever that courses through the abdomen. The methods of observation and consideration are recorded below. The caregiver should be an elderly woman experienced in such matters. If one carefully observes the smallpox patient's condition day and night in detail, reports to a good physician, and provides nursing care without negligence, then even if it is a difficult case of smallpox, there will be no concern for the person's life, and recovery is without doubt.
