おそろしく細目（ほそめ）にあいてけんぶつすれば
はやはじまりとみえて滝（たき）の太鼓（たいこ）を打
ならすとつゞみの役（やく）はたんほくの精（せい）あらはれ
笛（ふえ）の役（やく）は芦（あし）の葉（は）と定（さたま）り野菊（のぎく）出（いで）て翁（おきな）の
役をつとめけるも翁草（おきなくさ）のゑんなるべし
せんざい菊は千歳（せんざい）の役をつとめすでに式（しき）
三番も相すみければ犬山椒（いぬさんせう）の精（せい）罷いで
わたくしめは無げい役なししかし小つぶでも
辛（からい）を味噌（みそ）に口上の役目（やくめ）扨今晩 仕組（しくみ）大
ざらいとござりまして万木千草（ばんぼくせんそう）打 込（こみ）に仕
まして御らんに入奉りまする狂言の外題（げだい）
は神代杉木目争夜半続（じんだいすぎもくめあらそいやはんつゝき）に取組 別而（べつして）沢（たく）
瀉（しや）【オモダカ】工夫（くふう）をこらしましたる義にござりますれば
あしき所も只よい〳〵と御心いきのほど願上
現代語訳
恐ろしく細い目を開けて見物していると、早くも始まりと見えて、滝の太鼓を打ち鳴らす。鼓の役は蒲公英の精が現れ、笛の役は芦の葉と決まり、野菊が出てきて翁の役を務めるのも翁草の縁なのだろう。仙才菊は千歳の役を務め、すでに式三番も終わったので、犬山椒の精が罷り出て
「私めは無芸役無しでございますが、しかし小粒でも辛いを味噌に口上の役目を。さて今晩、仕組み大ざらいとございまして、万木千草打ち込みに仕まして御覧に入れ奉ります狂言の外題は『神代杉木目争夜半続』に取り組み、別して沢瀉が工夫をこらしましたる義にございますれば、悪き所も只よいよいと御心行くほど願い上げ
