奉りまするもつとも当座 橘（たちばな）の花舞木（くわぶき）根元（こんげん）
草木（そうもく）狂言は元祖橘工夫をいて相はじめ
寛草（くわんそう）十一戌年ゟ安（あん）じや九年迄凡百四十
八年 枝葉（ゑだは）を枯（から）さぬ根生（ねばへ）の古木（こぼく）此度唐山
権現（ごんげん）の託宣（たくせん）にござりまして只今 序幕（しよまく）始
りにござりまする短夜（たんや）のせつにはござりま
すれど東天光（とうてんくわう）〳〵と仕ますまでゆる〳〵との
御 見物（けんぶつ）をこいねがい奉（たてまつ）りますると弁舌（べんせつ）をぴり
つかせてひつ込（こむ）と楽屋（がくや）ゟ豊後（ぶんご）梅太夫につゝ
ゐてぺん〳〵草（ぐさ）は三味線（さみせん）を抱（かゝ）へ皆（みな）一同（いちどう）に
藤袴（ふぢばかま）を着（ちやく）し舞台（ぶたい）の正面（しやうめん）にならびける

現代語訳
奉りますが、もっとも当座は橘の花舞木の根元、草木狂言は元祖橘工夫を以て相始め、寛草十一戌年より安永九年まで、およそ百四十八年、枝葉を枯らさぬ根生えの古木、このたび唐山権現の託宣にございまして、ただ今序幕始まりにございます。短夜の節にはございますが、東天光々と仕るまで、ゆるゆるとの御見物をこい願い奉ります」
と弁舌をぴりつかせて引っ込むと、楽屋より豊後梅太夫に続いて、ぺんぺん草は三味線を抱え、皆一同に藤袴を着して舞台の正面に並んだ。

"...we humbly present. Most importantly, for the present occasion, from the roots of the orange blossom dance tree, the plant drama began with the original orange ingenuity. From the eleventh year of Kansō [1669] to the ninth year of An'ei [1780], approximately one hundred forty-eight years, an ancient tree with roots that never let its branches and leaves wither. This time, by the divine oracle of Tōzan Gongen, the opening act now begins. Though it is the season of short nights, we earnestly request your leisurely viewing until the eastern sky grows bright."
Having delivered this speech with animated rhetoric, [the speaker] withdrew. From the backstage, following Bungo Umetayū, shepherd's purse embraced a shamisen, and all together, dressed in fujibakama robes, lined up at the front of the stage.
