凡（およそ）奇樹（きじゆ）佳木（かぼく）の精（せい）。婦人（ふじん）と顕（あらは）れ。
翁（おやぢ）と替（かわ）り。或（あるひ）は童子（こども）と早代￣リ。虚（う）
言（そ）ァねい慥（たしか）な証拠（しやうこ）有。行￣ツて三河（みかは）の
長興寺（てうこうじ）二竜（にりう）の松（まつ）の詩（からうた）も倭（やまと）も替（かわ）らぬ

現代語訳
草木芝居化物退治 序
およそ珍しい木や美しい木の精霊は、婦人の姿となって現れたり、老人に姿を変えたり、あるいは童子となって早変わりする。これは嘘ではなく、確かな証拠がある。例えば三河の長興寺にある二竜の松の詩についても、漢詩であっても日本の歌であっても変わらぬ（霊験がある）。
