ものがたりとお聞（きき）流（なが）しにあそばされふつゝかな趣向（しゆこう）の
ありやこりやお笑（わら）ひ草（くさ）の種（たね）をまきてそこで
箱根とぬけました所が十六兵衛が一生の分別（ふんべつ）と

現代語訳
品も多く、あれこれの上げ下げを致しますれば、お心に適う草木に当たり障りはありがちの義でございますれば、お腹が立てば横にお休みなり、ただ何事も夢物語とお聞き流しに遊ばされ、つたない趣向のありやこりや、お笑い草の種を蒔いて、そこで箱根と抜けました。ところが十六兵衛が一生の分別と御覧被下ませう。

There are many varieties, and with all this raising and lowering of various matters, there are bound to be conflicts with plants and trees that suit your taste - this is just the way things tend to be. So when you get angry, just lie down and rest. Please just listen to everything as if it were a dream story, and laugh at the clumsy plot devices here and there as seeds of amusement. And with that, we take our leave from Hakone. But this represents Jūrokubeē's lifetime wisdom - please regard it as such.
