それ以来食欲も大いに減じ、食べなくても飢えを覚えなかったが、この時一度に大きな飢えを覚え、並べ立てられた膳部はその珍しく美味しそうなのを不思議に思い、食事の時に奏する鼓楽の音調は今日は何によってこのような快楽を覚えるのか、これほど甚だしいのはなぜかと驚かれた。さてまた、スカリア帝は二日目の夕方に帰還され、直ちに弟王に会い、様子はいかがかと見たところ、気色が殊に快楽そうであったので疑問が晴れず、弟王に向かい「前日は深く悲しみの様子があったが、今日忽ち快楽の状態にあるのは、きっと理由があることであろう。願わくは遠慮するところなく詳しく教えてくれ」と頻りに尋ねた。
