さて次の朝、夜明けの頃に雇い人がいつものようにやって来て、軛（くびき）をかけて牛を追い立て、耕作地に向かった。すると牡牛は驢馬の忠告をよく覚えており、いつものように従順にしないで雇い人を困らせた。雇い人は終日その制御の困難さに苦しみ果て、夜になって牛を囲いに繋ごうとすると、牡牛は突然大声で鳴いて跳び狂い、両角を振って雇い人を突き倒そうと構え、すべて驢馬の教えに従って勇気を示した。翌朝、雇い人が再びやって来て牡牛の様子を窺うと、飼い桶の中の豆や糖の量は少しも減っておらず、牡牛は横になって四肢を投げ出し、長く鳴いてとても苦しそうにしているのを見て、これは必ず重病に違いないと推察し
