主任であった。父が手ずから其の子女を殺すとは、世間にまたとあるまじき浅ましいことではないかと、身の薄命を嘆き泣き、一刻の眠りもとれないでいるうちに、既に夜も明けてしまった。恐れに震えながら参内し、既に帝が政庁に出御されていたので、今や絞首刑の命令があるだろうかと、帝を見ることが憂鬱であった。しかし帝は終日いつものように国事を処理し、日暮れに及んで朝廷を退け、一言も絞首刑のことには触れずに後宮に退かれた。宰相は疑念があれこれと晴れないけれども、問うべき手がかりもなく、やがて朝廷を退出した。このようにして帝は新皇后シェヘラザード姫を誘い
