大君野老敢ヘテ懇願スル処アリ暫ク君ノ震怒
ヲ止メ曲ゲテ野老ト野老ガ携ヘタル麀（メシカ）トノ物
語リヲ聞キ玉ヘ若シ野老ノ伝記此商人ノ伝記
ヨリモ更ニ奇ニシテ驚クベキコトナラバ。アハレ
此商人半身ノ血ヲ野老ニ分チ与ヘ玉フコトヲ聴（ユル）
シ玉ハンヤト頻リニ懇願セシニ初メノ程ハ魔
君之ヲ許諾セザリシカトモ終ニ其請ヲ肯（ウケガ）ヒケレ
バ彼老翁乃ハチ下回ノ物語リヲ初メタリ
先翁並麀ノ伝
野老（ヤツガレ）ガ身ノ上ヲ物語レバ最（イト）恥 輝（カヾ）ヤカシキ事ナ
現代語訳
「大王様、老いぼれが敢えて懇願することがございます。しばらく君の激しい怒りを鎮めて、どうか老いぼれと老いぼれが連れてきたこの雌鹿との物語をお聞きください。もし老いぼれの身の上話がこの商人の身の上話よりもさらに奇妙で驚くべきことでしたら、どうかこの商人の半身の血を老いぼれに分け与えてくださることをお許しくださいませんか」と頻りに懇願した。初めのうちは魔王はこれを承諾しなかったが、ついにその願いを聞き入れたので、あの老翁はそこで次の物語を始めた。

「老いぼれの身の上を物語れば、まことに恥ずかしく輝かしいことで

"Great King, this old man dares to make an earnest request of you. Please calm your fierce anger for a moment and listen to the story of this old man and the doe I have brought with me. If my life story is even more strange and wondrous than this merchant's story, would you not mercifully grant me half of this merchant's blood?" He pleaded earnestly. At first the demon king would not consent to this, but finally he accepted the request, so the old man began the following tale:
