橘￣ノ諸兄（モロエ）公愛＿レ之山州井手
之里￣ノ宅地￣ニ多￣ク植＿レ之公 任（タウ）郷【ママ、公任卿】
朗詠集￣ニ用￣ルハ疑冬ノ字者誤
也　款冬￣ハ即山蕗也
　　訓￣ス＿二山布布木￣ト＿一

現代語訳

『本草一家言』に云く、
　　金唐棣　和名ヤマフキ
　　棣棠（ヤマフキ）
　　　　　もう一種あり、和名の異名は春之巻一に記す

『和漢三才図会』蔓草類に曰く、
　　棣棠花　地棠花
　　　　　　御帯花
　　　　　　　也未不木（ヤマブキ）
　　　　　　金盌　水を好む
　　　　　　　一重の山吹
　　　　　　万葉集には「山吹」の字を用いる

橘諸兄（もろえ）公はこれを愛し、山城国井手の里の宅地に多く植えた。藤原公任卿【ママ】の
『朗詠集』に用いられている「疑冬」の字は誤りである。
款冬とはすなわち山蕗（ヤマブキ）のことである。
　　「山布布木（ヤマフフキ）」と訓ず

英語訳

According to the Honzō Ikke-gen (Personal Statements on Materia Medica):
　　Gold Tang Di [金唐棣] — Japanese name: Yamafuki
　　Di Tang [棣棠] (Yamafuki)
　　　　　There is also another variety; its alternate Japanese names are recorded in Spring Volume One.

According to the Wakan Sansai Zue (Illustrated Encyclopedia of Japan and China), in the section on creeping plants:
　　Di Tang Hua [棣棠花]　Di Tang Hua [地棠花]
　　　　　　　Obihana (Sash Flower)
　　　　　　　　Yamabuki (phonetically rendered as 也未不木)
　　　　　　Kin'en [金盌] — Likes water
　　　　　　　Single-petaled Yamabuki
　　　　　　In the Man'yōshū, the characters 山吹 are used.

Lord Tachibana no Moroe greatly loved this plant and had many planted at his residence in the village of Ide in Yamashiro Province. The character "疑冬 (gi-tō)" as used in the Rōeishū (Anthology of Chinese Poetry for Chanting) [attributed to] Lord Fujiwara no Kinto [as noted, this attribution appears to be a scribal correction] is an error. "款冬 (kan-tō)" refers in fact to yamabuki (mountain rose/kerria).
