歳時記に牡丹を夏季に
載せたり是夏説を以て
する欤牡丹則姑洗の
半を盛とす然れは夏節
に入る事在まし予花譜
季節を不考開花を生
寫す
事物起源云う隋の煬帝の世始て
傳て牡丹の華を而唐の開元年中
宮中及び民間競て尚賞す之を自り
此の有 の花
陳眉公か秘笈に云う剪るに牡丹の花を
欲急ならんとを急なれは則花状無に傷（いたみ）世に謂
牡丹は近まろ有と蓋し以しるに國朝文士の
集中に無し牡丹の謂張公嘗て曰
北齋の楊子華画く牡丹を極分
明なる ば則知め北齋已有しふを牡丹矣
現代語訳
歳時記には牡丹を夏季に
載せている。これは夏の説に基づいて
いるのであろうか。牡丹は姑洗の
半ばを盛りとする。そうであれば夏節
に入ることもあろう。私の花譜は
季節を考慮せず、開花を生きたまま
写し取るものである。
事物起源に云う、隋の煬帝の世に初めて
牡丹の花が伝わり、唐の開元年中に
宮中および民間で競って賞美した。これより
この花が知られるようになった。
陳眉公の秘笈に云う、牡丹の花を剪るに
急いではならない。急げば花の姿を損なう。世に言う
「牡丹は近寄るべからず」というのは、これを指すのであろう。国朝の文士の
詩文集中には牡丹の詩がない。張公がかつて言うには
「北斉の楊子華は牡丹を画いて極めて精密
であった。これによって北斉にはすでに牡丹が
あったことが知られる」と。
英語訳
The almanac (saijiki) lists peonies in the summer
season. Is this based on the summer theory?
Peonies reach their peak in the middle of
the "kosen" period. If so, they would enter
the summer season. My flower catalog
does not consider seasons but captures
the blooming flowers as they appear in life.
The Jiwu Qiyuan (Origin of Things) states that peony flowers first
arrived during the reign of Emperor Yang of Sui, and during the Kaigen era of Tang,
both the imperial court and common people competed in admiring them. From this time
this flower became known.
Chen Meigong's Secret Collection states that when cutting peony flowers,
one must not hurry. If rushed, the flower's beauty will be damaged. The common saying
"Do not approach peonies carelessly" refers to this principle. In the poetry collections of our dynasty's literati,
there are no peony poems. Master Zhang once said:
"Yang Zihua of Northern Qi painted peonies with extreme
precision. From this we know that peonies already existed
in Northern Qi."
