　　西王母桃

諸本草にニ裁ス西王母桃ハ一名冬桃又名ク崑崙桃ト花單葉實九十月ニ熟ス
ト云ヘリ今本邦ニ西王母ト名ツクル千葉大輪其樹源平桃ニ似テ實（ミ）
生ノモノ者其花咲一歳桃ノ如シ一歳桃ハ花單葉ニメ異リ西王母ハ花凋ム迄
葉ナシ七八月ノ間ニ葉ノ梢ニ多ク花咲返リ花ニアラズ年々相同シ地錦抄ニ

地錦抄より抜粋
　　西王母桃

諸々の本草書に記されているところによると、西王母桃は一名を冬桃、また崑崙桃とも名付けられ、花は単弁で実は九、十月に熟すという。今、日本で西王母と名付けられているものは八重咲きの大輪で、その樹は源平桃に似て実を結ぶものもある。その花の咲き方は一歳桃のようである。一歳桃は花が単弁であるのと異なり、西王母は花が散るまで葉がない。七、八月の間に葉の梢に多く花が返り咲きするが、これは（本来の）花ではない。年々同じことを繰り返す。地錦抄に説明されている通りである。なお、秋之部巻之五に写生を載せる予定である。

　　Seiōbo Peach (Queen Mother of the West Peach)

According to various materia medica texts, the Seiōbo peach is also called fuyu-momo (winter peach) or alternatively named Konron peach. It has single-petaled flowers and fruit that ripens in the ninth and tenth months. What is now called Seiōbo in Japan has double petals and large flowers. The tree resembles the Genpei peach and some bear fruit. Its flowering pattern is like that of the one-year peach. Unlike the one-year peach which has single-petaled flowers, the Seiōbo has no leaves until the flowers wither. During the seventh and eighth months, many flowers bloom again at the tips of the leaves, but these are not (true) flowers. This repeats year after year. This is as explained in the Chikkinshō. I will also include botanical illustrations in the fifth volume of the autumn section.
