国俗では紫を木蓮と云い、白を白木蓮と云う。『老学庵筆記』に記
された木蓮は比較が異なる。予が云うには、玉蘭花は和名を大山蓮花と云い、
葉が満ちてから花開く木蓮とは別である。同書でこれをモクレンとするのは
間違いであろう。木蓮の紫なる者を生庭（セイテイ）と云うが、群書に載せられていない。

It is recorded in detail in the Enshi, Junsei Hassei, Hanashi, and other works. The flowers come in two varieties: purple and white.
In common usage, the purple ones are called mokuren, and the white ones are called haku-mokuren. The mokuren recorded
in the Rōgakuan Hikki differs in comparison. I would say that the jade orchid flower has the Japanese name ōyama-renge, and
is different from mokuren, which blooms after the leaves are full. The same book's designation of this as mokuren is
probably incorrect. The purple variety of mokuren is called seitei, but this is not recorded in various books.
