御覧になったところ、梅の香りが漂い、紅色の袴を召しながら横になっていらっしゃった。中将殿と御簾を隔てて枕を並べてお休みになっていたので、御簾の内に人がいることが知られてしまった。一晩中慎んでいらっしゃって、忍び泣きの涙で枕は水浸しとなって濡れてしまった。中将殿がお立ち去りになる夜中に車に乗ってお帰りになろうとしたのは、内侍とそう約束していたのに、早くも夜が明けてしまったと師中納言がおっしゃったところに、御衣の兵部が衣にそよと触れたので、「夜が明けてしまったのはどうしたことか、内侍よ」とおっしゃったので、帝はにっこりと笑われて「内侍が参る」と

When the Middle Captain Lord departed in the middle of the night to return by carriage - though this was what he had promised the naishi - Master Chunagon said that dawn had already broken too early. At that moment, when the imperial garment attendant's clothing rustled softly against [someone], [the Emperor] said, "How is it that night has ended, naishi?" The Emperor smiled gently and said, "The naishi approaches,"
