暮し此節之天災天罰見なから畏(オソレ)も不致
餓死の貧人乞食をも敢而不救其身 膏梁(コウリヨウ)
之味とて結構成物を喰ひ妾宅等へ入込我
揚屋茶屋え大名之家来誘引参り高価之酒
湯水を呑も同様にいたし此難渋之時節に絹服
をまとひ河原者を妓女と共に迎ひ平生同様
遊楽ほこり候は何等之事か財は長夜の酒盛同様
其処に奉行諸役人手に握候政を以右之者ともを
取入下民を救之義も難出来日々堂嶋相場計を
いしり事にいたし実禄盗に決而天道聖人之御心に
難叶御憐なき事候蟄居之我等最早堪忍
なりがたし湯武之勢孔孟之徳なけれ共無拠

暮らしている。この度の天災天罰を見ながら畏れもせず、餓死する貧人や乞食をも敢えて救わず、その身は膏梁の味とて結構な物を食い、妾宅等へ入り込み、我が揚屋茶屋へ大名の家来を誘引して参り、高価な酒を湯水を飲むのと同様にして、この難渋の時節に絹服をまとい、河原者を妓女と共に迎え、平生と同様に遊楽にふけっているのは何事であろうか。財は長夜の酒盛りと同様である。そこに奉行諸役人が手に握る政治をもって右の者どもを取り入れ、下民を救う義も出来難く、日々堂島相場ばかりを気にかけることとして、実に禄盗であり、決して天道聖人の御心に叶い難く、御憐れなきことである。蟄居の我等、最早堪忍し難し。湯武の勢い、孔孟の徳はないけれども、止むを得ず

Witnessing this current divine disaster and heavenly punishment yet feeling no fear, they dare not rescue the poor and beggars dying of starvation, while they themselves feast on sumptuous delicacies called "rich and fatty flavors," frequent mistresses' quarters, invite daimyo retainers to their pleasure houses and teahouses, drink expensive sake as if it were mere water, wear silk garments during these times of hardship, welcome riverbank people along with courtesans, and indulge in pleasures just as in normal times - what manner of behavior is this? Wealth is like an all-night drinking party. The magistrates and various officials, wielding the politics in their hands, take in such people, making it difficult to rescue the common people, concerning themselves daily only with the Dojima market prices - this is truly stealing official stipends and certainly cannot accord with the hearts of Heaven's Way and the sages, how pitiable it is.
