候を知りなから疑惑いたし駈参不申又遅参におよひ
候得は金持の米金火中之灰に成申候天下の宝
を捨る無道者と陰言を不致様可致候為其一同触知せ
尤是迄地頭村方帳面類は都而引破焼捨可申候是往々
深く慮有事なり人民を困窮いたさせ不申積に候
乍去此度の一挙当朝平将門明智光秀漢劉
裕宋佺忠の謀反に類し候共是非有之道理に候得共
天下国家を望金盗いたし欲心ゟ起し候事
更に無之日月星辰神鑑有る事雪詰る所は
湯武漢高祖明太祖民を吊ひ君を誅し天罰を
執行候誠心而已若し疑しく覚候得は我等所業
終る処を尓篤眼を開て見よ
現代語訳
候を知りながら疑惑いたし駆け参じ申さず、また遅参におよび候えば、金持ちの米金は火中の灰と成り申し候。天下の宝を捨てる無道者と陰口をいたさぬよう致すべく候。そのため一同触れ知らすべし。もっとも、これまでの地頭・村方の帳面類はすべて引き破り焼き捨てるべく申し候。これは往々深く慮りある事なり。人民を困窮いたさせ申さぬ積もりに候。
さりながら、この度の一挙は当朝の平将門・明智光秀、漢の劉裕・宋の佺忠の謀反に類し候とも、これ是非ある道理に候えども、天下国家を望み金を盗み、欲心より起こし候事は更にこれなし。日月星辰神の鑑あること、雪の詰まる所は湯武・漢高祖・明太祖が民を弔い君を誅し、天罰を執行し候誠心のみ。もし疑わしく覚え候えば、我等の所業の終わる処を、その篤き眼を開いて見よ。
英語訳
Even knowing this, those who harbor doubts and fail to rush to join us, or who arrive late, will see the rice and gold of the wealthy turn to ashes in the fire. Do not speak ill of us as lawless men who would waste the treasures of the realm. For this reason, all must be informed together. Most importantly, all the ledgers and records of the local lords and village administrators up to now must be torn up and burned. This is a matter requiring deep consideration for the future. Our intention is not to cause suffering to the people.
However, even if this undertaking may be likened to the rebellions of Taira no Masakado and Akechi Mitsuhide of our court, or Liu Yu of Han and Quan Zhong of Song, there is righteous reason for it. We have absolutely no desire to covet the realm or steal gold out of greed. The sun, moon, stars, and gods bear witness - where snow accumulates, it is only the sincere hearts of Tang Yao and Yu, Han Gaozu, and Ming Taizu, who mourned for the people, executed tyrant rulers, and carried out Heaven's punishment. If you find this doubtful, open your discerning eyes and observe where our deeds ultimately lead.
