一、文化九申年七月、親御の擬作のうち壱両を減じられ、六両弐分三人扶持を下し置かれ、外招組付として召し出され、芸術修行のため諸勤は仰せ付けられず、小普請料を差し出すよう仰せ出された。
ただし、高橋与五郎組へ入ること。
一、同十酉年九月、追鳥狩の節に罷り出た。
ただし、この後二度罷り出て、うち一度は獲物を拝領した。
一、同年十一月、当追鳥狩の節、列伍・足並み等格別によく揃い、隊々を聯属・運用滞りなき段、かねて合隊稽古をも格別に出精したことと思し召しの旨、組一同に御称美をなし下された。
一、同月、一ノ小普請組外様士を仰せ付けられ、学校奉行支配に置かれた。

Item: In the 7th month of Bunka 9, the Year of the Monkey, [his stipend] was reduced by 1 ryō from his father's provisional allocation (*gisaku*), and he was granted 6 ryō 2 bu and 3 persons' worth of stipend in rice (*ninbuchi*). He was called into service attached to the *Sotomane-gumi* [an outer/reserve unit]. As he was assigned to pursue training in the arts, he was not assigned regular duties, and was ordered to submit the *kofushin-ryō* [a levy paid by those without active assignment].
Note: He was entered into the unit of Takahashi Yogorō.
Item: In the 9th month of the same year [Bunka 10], the Year of the Rooster, he turned out for the *oitorigari* [a large-scale hunting exercise/military drill].
Note: After this, he turned out twice more; on one occasion he received game as a gift from the lord.
Item: In the 11th month of the same year, during the said *oitorigari*, [his unit's] formation, marching order, and similar matters were especially well-organized; the seamless coordination and operation of the combined units was noted, and it was deemed that thorough effort had been made in joint formation drills beforehand. In recognition of this, the entire unit received commendation.
Item: In the same month, he was assigned as an *tozama-shi* [outer/non-hereditary retainer designation] of the *Ichi-no-kofushin-gumi* [First Reserve Group] and placed under the supervision of the *Gakkō Bugyō* [School Magistrate].
Item: In the 4th month of the same 14th year, the Year of the Ox, in recognition of his diligent pursuit and mastery of martial arts, he was assigned as attached to the *tozama-gumi*, [under] Takahashi Yo– (continued on next page)
