現代語訳
【右丁】
ということである。軍門で命を受ける者は、なぜこのことを深く理解しなければならないのか。そもそも銃や矢については、大小軽重を問わず、その力に任せ、火薬の多少や射程距離を問わず、その弾丸の発射と機構の度合いに協調させ、それぞれその適宜に従う。これこそが律である。律が度を失えば、その音を敗り、人心を惑わすものである。制度が悉く適宜に協調すれば、音がどうして調和しないことがあろうか。易経に「軍は律をもって出ず、否なれば凶を蔵す」とある。再び慎むべきである。
右は私が往年に述べた言葉を写して北原恭温に授ける。

This is what I mean. Why must those who receive commands at military headquarters deeply understand this principle? Fundamentally, regarding guns and arrows, regardless of their size or weight, one entrusts to their power; regardless of the amount of gunpowder or shooting distance, one harmonizes with the degree of projectile firing and mechanism, each following what is appropriate. This is precisely what constitutes the pitch pipe principle (ritsu). If the pitch pipe loses its proper measure, it will ruin the sound and confuse people's hearts. If the system entirely harmonizes with what is appropriate, how could the sounds fail to be in harmony? The Book of Changes says: "The army goes forth according to the pitch pipes; if not, it harbors misfortune." One must be cautious about this again.
