お年は二十二、位は二十三歳になるべき年齢である。華やかな衣服を引き換えて、濃い墨染めの衣に身をやつし、修行に励んでいらっしゃった。そうしているうちに、夕方頃に包んで差し上げた物を、今朝姫君にお渡しになったのを、広げてご覧になると、緑色の髻であった。世の常のことなので、蘭麝の香りを焚き染めて、歌が書かれていた。
数にも入らない憂き身の咎を思わないでいれば
約束したことを遂げることができたでしょうに
あなたゆえに身は無駄になってしまったけれど
せめて哀れみだけでも思い起こしてください
