現代語訳
【手書き墨書】明和七庚寅年（1770年）
越中の国に卯坂明神という御神がいらっしゃいます。お祭りは正月十四日・十五日です。このお祭りには、榊の枝で、その女性が男性に惚れた数に従って、お尻を打つのです。女性はその際、禰宜にお尻を委ねて、うつ伏せに伏します。禰宜は手元を持って、「何人？」とその人数を問いながら打つのです。
多くの女性は恥ずかしくて隠そうとしますが、そうすると、たちまち神罰があります。

「このおばさん、嘘をついている。三十六というのは大嘘だ。図々しいことよ。」

これは近江の国・つくま明神の御祭礼、四月朔日の「鍋かつき」の神事と同じことです。

英語訳
[Handwritten in ink] Meiwa 7, Kanoto-Tora year (1770)
In the province of Etchū, there is a deity enshrined called the Usaka Myōjin. The festival is held on the 14th and 15th days of the first month. During this festival, a woman is struck on the buttocks with a branch of sacred sakaki, the number of strikes corresponding to the number of men she has fallen in love with. The woman entrusts her posterior to the shrine priest (negi) and lies face-down. The negi holds the branch and asks, "How many?" before striking the corresponding number of times.
Many women are too embarrassed to tell the truth and try to conceal the number — but should they do so, divine punishment will swiftly follow.

"This old woman is lying. Thirty-six, she says — what an outrageous fib! How shameless!"
**[Narrative continued:]**
This is the same as the sacred rite of the Tsukuma Myōjin in Ōmi Province — the "Nabe-katsuki" (pot-wearing) festival held on the first day of the fourth month.

"Ah, the young one in the long-sleeved kimono — sixteen or seventeen years old! You are next. Don't you dare hide the truth!"
