現代語訳
【和歌】藤原としよりの歌に、
「いかにせん うさかの森に 身はすとも 君がしもとの 数ならぬ身は」
（どうしたものか、卯坂の森に身を投じても、あなたの榊の枝で打たれる数にも入らない（恋を知らぬ）わが身よ。）
このお祭りのことは、詳しくは『草木集』に記されています。卯坂明神は、御神体が「したてるひめ」（機織りの女神）であり、男性を選り好みして縁遠い女性が祈り申し上げれば、たちまち美男のお夫を授けてくださるとのことです。『縁起異種』二十五座の中、「大自在心王の歌」に、
「祈りても かいこそなれは ひとりねを いづも卯坂の 神垣のうち」
（祈ってこそ、蚕（かいこ）のように一人寝の身が解けるのだ、出雲・卯坂の神垣の内で。）

ここに信州（信濃国）高井郡に、高梨判官という武士がありました。古くより神祇官の家柄にして、諏訪明神を祀り奉っておりました。
その娘、浅ぎぬ姫は、男を選り好みして二十歳まで振り袖（未婚）のままでありました。（そこで）卯坂の社へ起請（きせい）なさいまして、「どうかよい夫をお授けください」と（お祈りなさいました）。

**[Poem]** A verse by Fujiwara no Toshiyori:
*"Ika ni sen / Usaka no mori ni / mi wa su tomo / kimi ga shimoto no / kazu naranu mi wa"*
"What am I to do? Though I cast myself into the forest of Usaka, I am not among those counted by your sacred branch — I, who have yet to know love."
This festival is described in detail in the *Sōmokushū*. The divine object of worship at Usaka Myōjin is the goddess Shitateruhime. It is said that women who are unlucky in love and pray earnestly to her are immediately granted a handsome husband. Among the "Twenty-Five Shrines" section of the *Engi Ishū*, the "Verse of Daijizaishinō" reads:
*"Inori temo / kaiko so nare wa / hitorine wo / izumo usaka no / kamigaki no uchi"*
"Only through prayer does the silkworm transform — may my lonely nights end, within the sacred fence of Usaka in Izumo."

Now, in Takai District of Shinano Province, there lived a warrior known as Takanashi Hangwan. His family had from ancient times been of the Jingikan lineage and had enshrined and venerated the Suwa Myōjin.
His daughter, Princess Asaginu, was so particular in choosing a husband that she remained unmarried — still wearing the long-sleeved furisode kimono of an unwed woman — until the age of twenty. She therefore made a solemn vow (kisei) at the shrine of Usaka, praying: "Please, grant me a fine husband."
