現代語訳
【右上段】
釈迦は中の町へやって来て、まず一杯飲もうと茶屋へ上がった。しかし「いやいや、ここでの人では」
【左上段】
「あるべき通り向こうでも大勢の客だからさぞ世話だろう」と、滅多無性に辞儀をして回り、何にも注文せずに当惑する。「これでよかろう」と滅多無性に辞儀をするのが残り、ああ、いくらでも楽しみなものだ。
釈迦でもそちらの良さそうなところに従がいい。
英語訳
【Right Upper Section】
Shaka came to Naka-no-machi (Middle Street) and went up to a teahouse, intending to have a drink first. However, he said, "No, no, as for the people here..."
【Left Upper Section】
"As it should be, over there too, with so many customers, it must be quite troublesome to serve them all," and he bowed excessively all around, becoming confused without ordering anything. "This should be fine," he continued bowing excessively - what remains is, ah, how endlessly entertaining this is.
Even Shaka would do well to follow wherever seems pleasant.
