現代語訳
ある時、釈迦一人で雪の吉原の遊郭に遊びに行こうと、柳橋で舟に乗った。折しも大雪が降っていたので、「俺が寒いのも人の恥になる」と無理やり船頭に羽織を貸し、自分は襦袢一枚で震えながら舟を漕いだ。これが本当の粋な行いである。

船頭は嬉しさのあまり（歌う）：
♪釈迦様はこの小さな舟の櫓を押して、雪もろともに行く潮の、これもあなたの情けかけ、俺は何も日間杉（？）て、早く吉原へ着いた。
「ああ、高砂の歌声が聞こえるではないか。知らなかった。なるほど、こうして来た所は千金の価値がある。私が横になっているのにお漕ぎなさるとは」と言うのは、本当の釈迦様だ。
英語訳
One time, Shaka decided to go alone to play in the pleasure quarters during the snow season. He boarded a boat at Yanagibashi. Just then, heavy snow began to fall, so saying "My being cold would shame others," he forcibly lent his haori coat to the boatman and rowed the boat himself, shivering in just his undergarment (juban). This was truly refined behavior.

The boatman, overwhelmed with gratitude, sang:
♪Master Shaka pushes the oar of this small boat, going through the snow with the tide, this too is your kindness, I did nothing but... and we quickly arrived at Yoshiwara.
"Ah, can I hear the song of Takasago? I didn't know. Indeed, the place we've arrived at is worth a thousand gold pieces. While I lie here, you do the rowing" - this is what the true Shaka-sama would say.
