現代語訳
釈迦は北方を説く。
「これより北の方にあって、吉原上土という国がございます。安心してお越しください。こういうことはどうやら軽妙な難を言いなさるでしょうか。世界の野暮な僧たちを通人にしろとの御請願。とかく道楽へ行って戯けと仏になったが、阿弥陀如来のことをお聞きなされ。これからまた勘に堪えがたい。ありがたいことか。後世は安らかですから、皆様方、ゆるゆると聴聞なされ。」

釈迦が北方（吉原）を説いて聞かせて、「ありがたい、ありがたい」と言ったので、今の世に通人となりにけり。
「なるほど、お釈迦様はお戯けの化身だぞ。」

Shaka preaches about the Northern Quarters.
"To the north from here, there is a country called Yoshiwara Upper Soil. Please come with peace of mind. How is it that you speak such witty criticisms about such matters? This is a petition to turn the world's boorish monks into men of refinement. In any case, go to pleasure quarters and become both a fool and a Buddha. Listen to the teachings of Amida Nyorai. From here on, it becomes unbearable to one's sensibilities. How grateful this is! The afterlife will be peaceful, so everyone, please listen leisurely to these teachings."

Because Shaka preached about the Northern Quarters (Yoshiwara) and made people listen, saying "How grateful, how grateful," people became connoisseurs in this world.
"Indeed, Lord Shaka is the incarnation of jest!"
