現代語訳
【右上段】
釈迦（十郎）はあまりに高慢なことを言い過ぎるので、相手の女郎も憎らしく思うのももっともな振りの仕方で、床へは行ったが寄り付かず、一人床の上で洒落本にある新五左（田舎武士）という身振りをしている。あまりに待ちかねてうとうとと居眠りをしていると、不思議なことに赤と藍で描いた衣を着た法師が一人、まぼろしのように現れた。

「私は皆様ご存知の光る十手小座りますかね。あんまり俺坊がお寂しいからちょいと、また御礼を申し上げることがあって参りました。いけませんねえ、あなた、あまり通ぶり過ぎるから。まことに当世の通というのは人の道を基本とし、嫌がることをせず追うようにあるべきもの。まだ修業が足りませんよ。さあ、難行苦行、虚仮の行を忍んで大通人となり、あまねく世界を道楽浄土へと道案内したまえ。主人と私が一つ鍋で食うから、こんなことを申しやすいと思うならば」と言うと消え失せた。

"I am the shining jitte-holder that you all know. Since you, my boy, seemed so lonely, I came to pay my respects and express my gratitude. This won't do—you're trying too hard to be sophisticated. Truly, what we call a connoisseur in these times should be based on the way of humanity, avoiding doing things that others dislike. Your training is still insufficient. Come now, through hardships and ascetic practices, endure false disciplines to become a great connoisseur, and guide the whole world to the pure land of pleasure. Since you and I share from the same pot, if you think I speak so freely because of this..." With that, he vanished.
