【右上段】
山谷あたりの地回りで大間の八という悪者が、何かの喧嘩の出入りで相手を殴ろうと二三人で土手にやって来た所、釈迦（十郎）は何の気もなく浅草帰りの通りがけで、人違いでさんざん殴られるのだが、釈迦は通人の心がけがあるので、少しも構わず痛いのを我慢している。

「もしお前方は、きっと人を殴りたかろう。いくらでも殴りなさい。だが、お手が痛むでしょう。」
「もし親方、こう承知では、殴りがいがない。」

「俺も大間の八様と一緒なら、よっぽど険悪で威勢のいい男だ。」

【Right Upper Section】
In the Sanya area, a local thug named Daima no Hachi was involved in some quarrel and came to the embankment with two or three others to beat up his opponent. Shaka(jūrō), without any particular purpose, was just passing by on his way back from Asakusa when he was mistaken for someone else and beaten severely. However, since Shaka has cultivated the spirit of a connoisseur, he doesn't mind at all and endures the pain.

"Gentlemen, you surely want to beat someone up. Please hit me as much as you like. But your hands must hurt."
"Hey boss, if he's so agreeable about it, there's no satisfaction in beating him."
