現代語訳
【右上段】
釈迦は人違いで大いに殴られて相談しているうちに夜も明けたので、顔を見て相手も「気の毒がり、痛みはしませんか」と言うと、「何さ、これしきのことは構わないのさ」と痛いのを我慢して、ようやく山谷の町にやって来て見ると、幸い髪結い床で恋人がちょうど「いい」と上がるところだった。
朝なので我々も髪を結いに来て、みな早く結いたがっているのを釈迦は見て取り、「何さ、私は遅くてもいい」と、どんどん後から来る人に譲って待っているうちに、その日も暮れてしまった。

大間の八は釈迦の通人らしい心に恥じて、ここに来て弟子となる。
【ここから釈迦十郎の台詞】
「通人になろうと思うなら、とかく気性をよく持ちなさい。あんまり大きな顔は損だよ。そして『八』をやめて『大間』としなさい。日和下駄は御免だ。」

【Right Upper Section】
After Shaka was badly beaten due to mistaken identity, while they were discussing the matter, dawn broke. Seeing his face, his opponent felt sorry and asked, "Are you in pain?" To which Shaka replied, "What, this little thing doesn't matter to me," enduring the pain. Finally arriving at the Sanya district, he was fortunate to see his lover just finishing up at the hairdresser's, saying "That's good" as she was about to leave.
Since it was morning, everyone had come to get their hair done, and they all wanted to be served quickly. Seeing this, Shaka said, "What, I don't mind being late," and kept letting people who came after him go first. While waiting like this, the day ended up passing by.

Daima no Hachi, feeling ashamed by Shaka's refined spirit, comes here and becomes his disciple.
【From here, Shaka Jūrō's dialogue】
"If you want to become a connoisseur, above all, maintain good temperament. Acting too big-headed will only hurt you. Stop using 'Hachi' and just call yourself 'Daima.' And forget about fair-weather clogs."
