　作与云者島原領内口之津に住居春る時島
　原城賊徒蜂起して郷中之者皆原之城引
　入ら連翌年寅二月廿八日落城之節出丸松
　山に右衛門作を木搦付置けるを小笠原右近
　太輔手に捕之而松平伊豆守方へ相渡し早速
　に詮議有之処に有馬左衛門佐方江矢文を
　以内通せし事粗顕連右之通糾明せられ
　しと也然者忠節有之故助命せられ帰
　陣之節伊豆守江戸江召連相達春則伊豆
　守尓御預け置給ふ其後法躰し山田祐庵

　与号し長崎江下り住居す
　　但明暦元年病死右衛門作兄弟有希里共
　　に小川町に住居し甥山田藤兵衛元禄十
　　年迄小川町に相続い堂し居ける

現代語訳

作という者は島原領内の口之津に住んでいたが、島原城で賊徒が蜂起して郷中の者が皆原城に引き入れられ、翌年寅年二月二十八日の落城の際、出丸の松山で右衛門作を縄で縛り付けておいたのを小笠原右近太輔の手勢が捕らえ、松平伊豆守の元へ引き渡した。早速詮議したところ、有馬左衛門佐の元へ矢文をもって内通していたことがほぼ明らかになり、右の通り糾明されたという。しかし忠節があった故に助命され、帰陣の際に伊豆守が江戸へ連れて行き、その後伊豆守にお預けになった。その後法体となり山田祐庵

と号し、長崎へ下って住んでいる。
　ただし明暦元年に病死した。右衛門作には兄弟がおり、共に小川町に住居し、甥の山田藤兵衛は元禄十年まで小川町で家を継いでいた。

『武家事紀』によれば、細井林清（俗名喜三郎正信）、野間如性（俗名某）は初めから終わりまで勇を励まし功があった。如性は二月二十八日に討死した。両士は元々御家人であったが、故あって逐電した。

英語訳

Saku was a man who lived in Kuchinotsu within Shimabara domain. When rebels rose up at Shimabara Castle and all the people of the district were drawn into Hara Castle, during the fall of the castle on the 28th day of the 2nd month of the following Tiger year, Uemonsaku was tied up with rope at Matsuyama of the outer bailey. He was captured by Ogasawara Ukon-no-taiyu's forces and handed over to Matsudaira Izu-no-kami. Upon immediate investigation, it became clear that he had been secretly communicating with Arima Saemon-no-suke through arrow messages, and this was thoroughly investigated as described above. However, because of his loyalty, his life was spared, and when returning from campaign, Izu-no-kami brought him to Edo and subsequently placed him under Izu-no-kami's custody. Later he became a monk and took the name Yamada Yūan,

and went down to Nagasaki to live there.
　However, he died of illness in the first year of Meireki. Uemonsaku had brothers who all lived in Ogawa-chō, and his nephew Yamada Tōbei continued the family line in Ogawa-chō until the tenth year of Genroku.

According to the "Buke Jiki," Hosoi Rinsei (lay name Kisaburō Masanobu) and Noma Nyoshō (lay name so-and-so) showed courage and merit from beginning to end. Nyoshō died in battle on the 28th day of the 2nd month. Both warriors were originally retainers but fled for some reason.
