The first to breach was Ishii Yashichizaemon, the second to breach was Ishii Den'emon. The first to set fires was Ishikuma Gorozaemon, the second was Tashiro Shirozaemon.
It is also said that on the same 27th day, the first to breach by himself from the third bailey through the bamboo gate entrance on the right side of the second bailey was Makino Denzo. Advancing against the enemy at the head of battle, when he attacked between the pit huts where they were living, he fought fiercely with enemies defending the bamboo gate area. He turned back at the side of the lotus pond below the main bailey, and around the huts, at about two ken distance, enemies were lying in wait with loaded firearms. Denzo was carrying a cross-shaped spear, and when he pressed forward toward the gun muzzles, they fired. The shot did not miss, hitting the spear shaft,
and the bullet deflected to hit his elbow, knocking him down. The foremost of his household retainers rushed up and helped him to his feet. After that, Tachibana's advance guard and also Nabeshima's forces set fire to the huts in the second bailey. Those who entered from the outer bailey said that their side was not so delayed, which should not be said.
It is also said that on the same 27th day, the forces of Hosokawa Etchū-no-kami and Hosokawa Higo-no-kami, numbering 28,600 men, immediately mounted an assault on the third bailey at the attack point. They struck down the rebel bands, broke into the second bailey, and set it on fire. At the entrance to the second bailey they killed several of the rebels, and struck down many others. Before the hour of the Rooster, forces attacked from the sea-facing corner of the main bailey to the west entrance, reaching the walls of the main bailey.
