　乗取處者僅に本丸細曲輪弐三拾間斗に而本城に

　刻本丸搦手ゟ黒田右衛門佐同甲斐守同市正
　乗入討之其外大手方々ゟ迹勢乗入午之下
　刻之頃悉落着す伊豆守左門二之丸三之丸に備

松平伊豆守の島原陣の覚書によると、二月二十八日の早朝、細川軍の手から本丸の家に火矢を射かけて焼き立てた。二十七日の晩に乗り取った場所は、わずかに本丸と細曲輪の二、三十間ほどであり、本城には敵が幾千人いるか分からないほどで、二十八日まで持ちこたえていた。同日巳の下刻（午前十一時頃）、本丸の搦手から黒田右衛門佐、同甲斐守、同市正が乗り入って攻撃し、その他大手の方々からも後続部隊が乗り入れ、午の下刻（午後一時頃）の頃には全て落着した。伊豆守と左門は二之丸、三之丸に備えていた。

According to the memorandum of Matsudaira Izu-no-kami regarding the Shimabara campaign: On the early morning of February 28th, fire arrows were shot from Hosokawa's forces to set the main citadel buildings ablaze. The area captured on the evening of the 27th was only about 20 to 30 ken (approximately 36-54 meters) of the main citadel and narrow outer bailey, while the main castle still held thousands of enemies of unknown number, who held out until the 28th. On the same day, during the late hour of Mi (around 11 AM), Kuroda Uemon-no-suke, Kuroda Kai-no-kami, and Kuroda Ichimasa charged in from the rear approach of the main citadel to attack. Additionally, reinforcements charged in from various points of the main approach, and by around the late hour of Uma (around 1 PM), everything was completely settled. Izu-no-kami and Samon were stationed at the second and third baileys.
