自生￣ニ而以￣ス＿レ時￣ヲ今近来梅花冬月￣ヨリ賞（モテアリニ）￣シ
用￣ユ＿二立花￣ニ多￣ク＿一是花店（ハナヤ）￣ニ買物￣メ而皆 土室（ジムロ）￣ニ
入 長閑（アタヽメ）￣テ開￣カス＿レ之￣ヲ諺（チナミ）曰 植木屋（ウエキヤ）亦然￣リ春
花冬￣ヨリ皆開￣カス是以￣テ＿二 人情碎心￣ヲ＿一於＿二璧室（トウムロ）￣ニ＿一

私（梅園）が言うには
梅はみな春を好んで咲き綻ぶが、冬梅は冬を好んで咲く。これは
自然のままに時節に従って咲くものである。しかし近頃は梅花を冬月より愛でて
立花に多く用いている。これは花屋で買い求めたもので、みな土室に
入れて温めて咲かせるのである。諺にいう通り、植木屋もまた同様で、春の
花を冬から皆咲かせる。これは人の心配りによって、土室で
春の気を作り出して草木に催促し、樹の本心を奪って、それぞれを早く
咲かせるのである。これは当然の季節に合わないものであって、春の気によるものゆえ、冬咲きと
言うべきではない。ただ当然の季節に自ら咲くものが正真の花である。
ゆえに野生のものを真実とする。別に寒紅梅というものがあり、同じ
樹で紅色のものである。

I (Baien) say:
All plums love spring and bloom accordingly, but winter plums love winter and bloom then. This is
natural blooming according to the seasons. However, recently plum blossoms have been appreciated from winter months
and are much used in flower arrangements. These are purchased from flower shops, and all are placed in earth chambers
and warmed to make them bloom. As the saying goes, plant sellers do likewise,
making all spring flowers bloom from winter. This is done through human artifice, creating
spring conditions in heated chambers to force plants and stealing the tree's natural inclination, making each bloom
early. This goes against the natural season, and since it relies on artificial spring conditions, it should not
be called winter blooming. Only what blooms naturally in its proper season is a true flower.
Therefore, wild-growing specimens represent the truth. There is separately something called cold red plum, which is of the same
tree but with red-colored flowers.
