それならば御目にかからなくても、これまで用事で来た旨を伝えるようにと市正殿が申され、駕籠の外に
いらっしゃったが、門内からは一報もなく、ようやく深夜に及んだので、市正殿の屋敷から迎えの人が参ったのでは
いかがなものかと思われるので、早々に東叡山御門主様のところへ行かれるのがよろしいと家来が申したため、護国院まで
参られ、思いの通り御門主へ伝えられ、委細をお聞き届けいただき、まず護国院にお留め置きになり、中務少輔殿へ
御内意を仰せ遣わされた由。一類中で相談があり、護国院へ大久保加賀守殿が宿坊にて
その筋もあったので、堀田筑前守殿から内証でご依頼があり、加賀守殿の執り持ちで酒井靱負佐
殿へ御預けになった。市正殿の思いは、今まで下屋敷にいたところ、中務少輔殿の意向で
在所の播州へ遣わし置くという相談が決まったため、市正殿の御母と娘も一人おり、
播州へ行って押し込められては迷惑なことと思い、この段は井伊掃部頭殿へ由緒もあるので
頼みたいと思い、その趣を伝えたい。右の通りなので、やむを得ず御門主様へ
伝えた由。中務少輔殿の御内室も右のことを特に迷惑に思い、市正殿のことは実子といえ病気
の身のことなので下屋敷へ置いてくださるようにと詫びを申されたが、中務少輔殿は承知せず、それならば
内室も下屋敷に市正殿と一緒に引きこもっていられるようにと中務少輔殿が申し伝えられた。色々とやり取りが
あったが、御内室を下屋敷へ押し込むのは諸方への外聞がよくないので、この上は離縁すると
その趣を申し遣わし、里方へも内意があったため離別をし、去る頃に実家へ戻られた。これにより市正
殿はいよいよ困窮し、思いがけない心底を表した由という取り沙汰をした。中務少輔殿の内室は松平周防
守殿の姉女であった。市正殿へ申し渡された趣旨は
脇坂市正は親の中務少輔に対して不調法な仕方があったため、酒井靱負佐へ御預けになる旨

his retainers suggested it would be best to go quickly to the Gate Master of Tōei-san, so he went to Gokoku-in,
conveyed his thoughts to the Gate Master as intended, had the details heard, was first lodged at Gokoku-in, and
private instructions were sent to Lord Nakatsukasa-shōyū. There was consultation among the clan members, and at Gokoku-in, Lord Ōkubo Kaga-no-kami had lodgings there
and had connections in that regard, so Lord Hotta Chikuzen-no-kami made a private request, and through Kaga-no-kami's mediation, [Ichimasa] was placed under the custody of Lord Sakai Yuge-no-
suke. Lord Ichimasa's thoughts were that while he had been staying at the lower residence until now, it was decided through consultation according to Nakatsukasa-shōyū's intention
to send him to his domain in Harima Province. Since Ichimasa's mother and one daughter would also have to
go to Harima and be confined there, which would be troublesome, and since there were connections with Lord Ii Kamon-no-kami regarding this matter,
he wished to ask for his help and wanted to convey this intent. Due to the above circumstances, he unavoidably
conveyed this to the Gate Master. Nakatsukasa-shōyū's wife also found this matter particularly troublesome, and although Ichimasa was her stepson, since he was
in poor health, she pleaded that he be allowed to remain at the lower residence, but Nakatsukasa-shōyū would not agree, saying that if so,
his wife should also withdraw to the lower residence together with Ichimasa. There were various negotiations,
but since confining his wife to the lower residence would damage their reputation with others, she declared she would divorce him,
conveyed this intent, and as there was also private communication with her family, she divorced and returned to her family home recently. As a result, Lord Ichimasa
fell into even greater difficulty and revealed unexpected inner thoughts, according to gossip. Nakatsukasa-shōyū's wife was
the sister of Lord Matsudaira Suō-no-kami. The notification to Lord Ichimasa was:
