現代語訳
○同年 法相宗の恩照と申す出家が京都から下ってきた。後水尾院様の御子であるとの由来で、憐れみのない義を申し触らしたため、石川美作守殿へ御預けとなった。右の者は本寺末寺がない由。

右造り畢るにつき九月三日 勅額御供養があり、右御祝儀で六日には総出仕で諸大名が登城したところ、山下町から出火し強風で大火となり登城は中止となった。この火は上野山中へ焼け通り、御本坊・厳有院様御霊屋が焼失した。これを世に勅願火事と言い伝える。

Claiming to be a child of Former Emperor Go-Mizunoo, he spread teachings lacking in compassion, and was therefore placed under the custody of Lord Ishikawa Mimasaka-no-kami. This person reportedly has no main or branch temple.

Upon completion of the construction, on September 3rd there was a memorial service for the imperial tablet. For this celebration on the 6th, all daimyo were to attend court in full attendance, but a fire broke out in Yamashita-chō and became a great conflagration due to strong winds, so attendance at court was canceled. This fire burned through the Ueno mountains, destroying the main temple quarters and the mausoleum of Genyūin-sama [4th shogun Ietsuna]. This is traditionally called the "Imperial Vow Fire."
