天明六丙午年秋関東洪水之節は御執斗之能を被賞候由にて
被任摂津守其後も郡中にては半左衛門様〳〵とのみ称候由にて
又半左衛門尉と成給ひしか後に右近将監に成給ひ世挙て
褒称せし御方なりしか右之如くにて後には高野山に入

一 紀州羽順鹿嶋風玉三郡之内村〻へ去八月比ゟ鼠夥敷出候て田畑を損并
野山草木の根を喰荒し最初は風玉郡名母村と申処の山ゟ鼠相
見え候茅の根等を喰荒申候海ゟ上りし哉土中ゟ出候哉又は何そ化候而
鼠ニ成哉【外？】其後は相知不申候是ゟ段〻鼠夥敷罷成三百九十ケ村ニ
及申候而田畑を喰荒候ニ付追狩又は火にて鼠穴を焼或は落穴ニ
餌を付置候へ共少しならては取レ不申田へ仕懸候へは鼠も水を得候て

当春ニ至り候ても減不申此間人家にも鼠相見へ申夜中又は人音

天明六年（1786年）丙午の年の秋、関東洪水の際は御執り行いの能力を賞賛され、摂津守に任ぜられたということで、その後も郡中では半左衛門様と呼ばれていたということで、また半左衛門尉となられたが、後に右近将監となられ、世間全体で褒め称えられた御方であったが、右のような事情で後には高野山に入られたということを粗方承った。
一 紀州羽順鹿嶋風玉三郡の内の村々へ、去る八月頃から鼠が大量に出て田畑を損ない、また野山の草木の根を食い荒らした。最初は風玉郡名母村という所の山から鼠が現れ、茅の根などを食い荒らした。海から上がったのか土中から出たのか、あるいは何かが化けて鼠になったのか、その後のことは分からない。これから段々と鼠が大量になり、三百九十ヶ村に及んで田畑を食い荒らすので、追い狩りまたは火で鼠穴を焼き、あるいは落とし穴に餌を置いたが、少ししか捕れない。田に水を入れると鼠も水を得て
弱る様子もない。雪が降れば鼠が減ることもあるだろうかと様子を見ていたところ、当春に至っても減らない。この間、人家にも鼠が現れ、夜中または人音の静かな時分に出て田畑を食い荒らしている。
一 能州河内村の百姓共が所持している牛馬のうち十匹が、当正月下旬から背筋から首にかけて傷ができて斃れた。厩の内に鼠が多く出来たので、鼠のせいで斃れたのかと思われる。
一 鼠は普通の鼠より尾が短く、鼠が小さく口先が尖っている。色は普通の通りである。また赤い色や朽葉色もある。鼠に大小がある。右は二月十八日に申し来た。その後の鼠の増減については分からない。

乗邨の按ずるに：紀州にこの文の郡名はなく、別国の名前の書き損じであろう。しかし鹿嶋という名前は常陸の郡名にのみあり、羽順風玉という郡名は更にない。されば書き損じであろう。またいつの頃のことか不詳。

In the autumn of Tenmei 6 (1786), the year of hinoe-uma, during the Kantō floods, his administrative capabilities were praised and he was appointed Settsu-no-kami. Thereafter, he was called Hanzaemon-sama throughout the district, and later became Hanzaemon-no-jō, then Ukon-no-shōgen. He was praised by all society, but due to the aforementioned circumstances, he later entered Mount Kōya, as I have roughly heard.
One: In the villages of the three districts of Hashun, Kashima, and Fūgyoku in Kii Province, from around last August, mice appeared in great numbers, damaging rice fields and dry fields, and eating the roots of grasses and trees in the fields and mountains. Initially, mice appeared from the mountains of a place called Namo Village in Fūgyoku District, eating and destroying the roots of miscanthus and such. Whether they came up from the sea, emerged from the soil, or were some transformation into mice is unknown. From this point, the mice gradually increased in great numbers, affecting 390 villages and eating the crops in the fields. Although they tried hunting drives, burning mouse holes with fire, or placing bait in pitfall traps, they could catch only a few. When they flooded the fields, the mice also got water and
showed no signs of weakening. They watched to see if the mice might decrease when snow fell, but even when spring came, they did not decrease. During this time, mice also appeared in people's homes, coming out at night or during quiet times to eat the crops in the fields.
One: Of the cattle and horses owned by farmers in Kawachi Village in Noto Province, ten animals developed wounds from their backs to their necks starting from late January of this year and died. Since many mice appeared in the stables, it is thought they may have died due to the mice.
One: The mice have shorter tails than ordinary mice, are smaller, and have pointed snouts. Their color is the same as usual. There are also red-colored and dead-leaf-colored ones. The mice come in various sizes. This was reported on the eighteenth day of the second month. The increase or decrease of mice thereafter is unknown.
One: Sakai Magistrate Mizutani Shinano-no-kami's administrative methods are particularly excellent and are praised. When he visited Sakai, he provided a meal for the local yoriki officials, consisting of soup, vinegared dishes, grilled food, red sardines, and pickles. When Shinano-no-kami visited and spoke to everyone, he said, "Today I have provided this meal. From above as well..."

Norimura's note: These district names do not exist in Kii Province and appear to be errors in copying names from another province. However, the name Kashima exists only as a district name in Hitachi Province, and district names like Hashun and Fūgyoku do not exist at all. Therefore, these appear to be copying errors. Also, the time period is unclear.
