戸棚（とたな）の内のかげんを見るへしほめくほどにはわろし
又すこしはかりのたね紙（かみ）ならは背（せなか）にいれてあたゝむへし
人身（にんしん）にてあたゝめたるは殊外（ことのほか）よし然（しか）れとも腹（はら）のかたへ入
置（おき）侍（はへ）れは毎日（まいにち）の物（もの）ごとにさはりと成て紙（かみ）へつよく
其身あたりてしはよせわろきゆへにせなかへ入るを吉（よし）とす

飼場（かいば）にて病（やむ）ぞ煩（わつらふ）ぞといふまじきための業言（わざこと）なりさて
桑葉（くはは）をくはざる程（ほと）をやすみといふなり又（また）むし。物（もの）に
おどろきにほひに煩（わつらひ）ていろあしく成（なり）たるをおもかわり
するといひ。能（よく）なりたるをおもなをりなどゝいふ女（おんな）のすべき
業言（わさこと）やさしくいやしからぬことのは。など咄（はな）しにもいひ

戸棚の内の加減を見るべきである。褒めるほどには良くない。
また少しばかりの種紙ならば背中に入れて温めるべきである。
人の体で温めたものは格別に良い。しかしながら腹の方へ入れ置けば、毎日の用事に支障となって紙へ強くその身が当たってしわを寄せて良くないため、背中へ入れるのを良しとする。
一、蚕が孵化する虫の形は、夏頃に水に住むぼうふり虫の形のようで、一日一夜の内に孵化するものである。それより段々と別に飼い立てれば、一度眠、二度眠、三度眠、四度眠までの眠起きが揃って良い。眠起きとは、苦しみの中で悩み眠っているためである。心地よくなって桑葉を食べる

ことを起き上がると言う意味である。このような忌み言葉を言い習わして、飼育場で「病む」とか「煩う」とか言ってはいけないための業界用語である。さて、桑葉を食べない期間を「休み」と言うのである。また虫が物事に驚いたり臭いに煩って色が悪くなったりすることを「面変わりする」と言い、良くなったことを「面直り」などと言う。女性のすべき業界用語で、優雅で卑しくない言葉などを話にも言い、軽々しくも恐ろしげな声をして人を叱るような事を特に嫌って驚く虫である。軽やかゆえに、身分の高い人が飼い立てた繭ほど良く、土民や身分の低い者が飼ったものは必ず悪くできるものである。
