取上ときのぶさたにてむしの出たる類い見わけより
わかちてこれを綿まゆとするの惣名やむ事を得

取り上げる時の不注意で虫が出てしまった類を見分けてから分けて、これを綿繭とするという総称は、やむを得ないものである。
一、金蚕繭を「きんこうじ」などと言うのは間違いである。「金子」と書くのも誤りである。「絹子（きんこ）」は上級繭の総称で、糸に引いて織物になるものを言うのである。それゆえ「大組」として、しっかりと出来上がり、よく大きく、しかも一つ作りである。この中にもまた「小組」「茅形」などというものがある。少し長めで色がはっきりとして美しく見えるものである。これを最上級の繭とする。
一、金目貫というのは黄色い繭で、少し前後が平らである。

繭の中ほどがくびれて括られたような形のものである。前後が馴れて尖らない繭で、これも上級の類である。
一、小丸繭というのは世間で丹波種というものである。丹波から出る繭の風体で、大方黄色である。これにはくびれがなく、むっちりとした格好に見える。丹波にもこの格好で白い繭も多い。糸にして強い。金目貫は越前種に多くあるゆえに越前繭ともいう。しかしながら、その国から出ないものなので、小丸繭とも金目貫などとも言う。国々所々の相異言葉である。どれも性質の良い繭である。
