Hodo Suenaga (wearing hunting garments) came out to greet, and there was a brief rest at the temporary lodging. Then, accompanied by the construction supervisors, starting from the Yuigami and proceeding to inspect all the completed sections of the inner shrine construction. Afterward, there was rest at the retreat lodge. During this time, the head priest and others took their seats in the worship hall from the convenience area. Subsequently, Yamamura-dono and all the construction supervisors took their seats in the viewing stands without exception. From this point, the ceremony began. Before the rice cake scattering, Yamamura-dono and others moved to the retreat lodge, and after the scattering was completed, they withdrew. Upon returning to Kyoto, there was an inspection of all the completed sections of the subsidiary shrine, and after completion, the representatives saw them off to the front torii gate as before.
1. At Kifune, a procedural document was presented to Yamamura Shinano no Kami-dono:
Abbreviated Procedure for Kifune Inner Shrine Roof Beam Raising
Today is the roof beam raising ceremony. The time is before the hour of mi. The head priest, shrine keepers, and ritualists (each wearing court dress), two rotating attendants (each wearing purified garments with embroidered borders), the head priest, administrators, and deputy administrators (each wearing purified garments with embroidered borders) and others proceeded together, first approaching the subsidiary shrine and taking seats in the worship hall (head priest in the center, shrine keeper to the west, ritualist to the east, each facing north; regarding the rotating attendants, they face west from the eastern position).
Next, both shrine officials and rotating attendants proceeded to the shrine building and offered sacred provisions to the outer sanctuary, then returned to their seats.
Next, the head priest and both officials completed the recitation of ritual prayers.
Next, the shrine keeper and others proceeded to the shrine building as initially, removed the sacred provisions, and each withdrew.
Then the head priest and others each proceeded to the inner shrine, took seats in the worship hall, and offered sacred food to the outer sanctuary.
The procedure was the same as at the subsidiary shrine. After removing the sacred provisions, the roof beam raising ceremony immediately began. At this time, they approached the magistrate's rest area and announced that the roof beam raising was about to begin, and the magistrate immediately proceeded (wearing hemp formal dress).
Then there was an inspection of the inner shrine construction progress, and a brief entry into the retreat lodge. Previously, there were decorative roof beam ornaments and offerings (the responsibility of the master carpenter).
Next, the head priest, both officials, and others took seats in the worship hall (head priest in center, shrine keeper to the west, ritualist to the east, each facing north; two rotating attendants facing east from the west, head priest, administrators, and deputy administrators facing west from the east). At this time, the magistrate entered the seating area (eastern side of worship hall). The construction supervisor (wearing hunting garments) took a seat under the eastern eaves of the shrine building. The master carpenters sat in rows to the east of Iwafune. The visiting shrine officials...
