現代語訳
桃太郎が鬼ヶ島より数々の宝を持ち帰ったので、爺さん婆さんとは元の通り、二人の親のように喜び、三人の者（猿・雉・犬）にだんだんとお礼を言い、いろいろとご馳走して引き留めた。「いつでもこちらにいらっしゃい」と言えども、皆々妻子もあるものゆえ帰ろうと言い、たくさんの宝も欲しがらず。
というのも鳥類畜類というものは銭金に関してはよっぽど楽なものなり。

私は食べると顔が真っ白になります。

明日辺りは立ちましょう。私は飛んで参るから良いが、二人の衆がご大儀じゃ。焼け野の雉子、夜の鶴、別して子を思うゆえ急ぐ。

団子一つにて鬼ヶ島まで供をして帰ったゆえ、したたか気立てを拵えて振る舞ったゆえ、この上もないご馳走なり。
【婆さんの台詞】
お前、片端とは言うが犬と猿にしては仲の良いことじゃ。どうして雉様とはお心安い。変わったお付き合いじゃ。
英語訳
When Momotarō returned from Oni Island with countless treasures, the old man and old woman rejoiced like his true parents as before, gradually expressing gratitude to the three companions (monkey, pheasant, and dog), entertaining them with various delicacies and trying to make them stay. Though they said "Please come here anytime," all of them had wives and children, so they said they must return home, and they desired none of the many treasures.
This is because birds and beasts are quite carefree when it comes to money and gold.
