現代語訳
鬼ヶ島にて宝を取られ、大困窮になり、皆々残念に思い、何とぞ取り返さんと大勢寄り合い、いろいろと謀り事を巡らせども、思案に落ちず。とうとう昔より色事でなくては取り入られず。平家の滅びしも元来我が色香に迷い、鳴神の行法の妨げ、その他数を知らず。恋でなければ謀り事なし。鬼ヶ島では赤鬼が娘、年は二八の美人、物皆心を掛けぬ者はなし。これを桃太郎が方へ入り込ませて恋にて油断させ取り返さんと謀る。鬼も十六とはこの事なるべし。

英語訳
At Oni Island, having had their treasures stolen, they fell into great hardship. Everyone felt regretful and gathered in large numbers to devise various schemes to recover them, but no good plan came to mind. Finally, they realized that since ancient times, nothing could be accomplished without romantic intrigue. The downfall of the Heike clan was also due to being misled by feminine charm, as was the obstruction of the thunder god's ascetic practices - there are countless such examples. Without love, there can be no successful schemes. On Oni Island, there was a red demon's daughter, sixteen years old and beautiful, with no one who did not fall for her charms. They plotted to send her to Momotarō to make him let his guard down through love and thus recover their treasures. "Even demons are naive at sixteen" - this saying must refer to such situations.
