現代語訳
赤鬼が娘のお清を日本へ宝を取りに遣わすことに相談が決まり、皆々名残を惜しみ泣いた。鬼の目にも涙とて、普通の者よりも悲しんだ。「女房は涙一滴凍らず」と言い、気丈な鬼の女房について、「鬼神にして心の強き女」を言うのはこの例えと見えた。

くよくよと泣き言を言って、癪を起こしてはだめ。大勢のため、国のため、そなたの器量がよく生まれたのが因果というもの。

両親の心を察し、籠の者まで悲しむのは、鬼神に横道なしということである。

英語訳
It was decided through consultation to send the red demon's daughter Okiyo to Japan to retrieve their treasures, and everyone wept while cherishing their farewells. Even demons shed tears, and they grieved more than ordinary beings would. The saying "a wife's tears never freeze" refers to the stalwart demon wives, and this appears to be an example of what is meant by "women with hearts as strong as demons."
