お清は姿を変装し、様子を窺いながら奉公に出ようと、世話焼きの所へ頼みに来た。「田舎から初めて参りました」と言って働き、奉公に出る。鬼ヶ島とはいえども山に住んでいるので、山出し（田舎者）である。
