短冊（たんざく）の寸法（すはふ）は。ひろ（広）さ一寸八分。なが（長）さ一尺一寸五分なり。
ただ（但）しなが（長）きにおきては。いさゝか（聊）二分（にぶ）三分（さんぶ）のたがひ。くるしか
らず。ひろ（広）さはさのみ たがひ（違）もなきよし見えたり。またある
せつ（説）には。ひろ（広）さ一寸九分。なが（長）さ壹尺弐寸とあり。
たんざく（短冊）の かみ（紙）を。ひと（人）の もと（元）へ おくる（贈）にはその かず（数）を なに（何）
ほど（程）にてもかさね。ほそ（細）き かみ（紙）にて はし（端）を ふたところ（二所）ゆひ（結）。
ひきあはせ（引合）などいふ かみ（紙）につゝみ。やないば（柳筥）こにすゑて。なか（中）を ふ（二）

【左丁】
短冊の寸法は、幅一寸八分、長さ一尺一寸五分である。ただし長さについては、わずか二分三分の違いは問題ない。幅はそれほど違いもないようである。また別の説では、幅一寸九分、長さ一尺二寸とある。
短冊の紙を人に贈る場合は、その枚数を何枚でも重ね、細い紙で端を二箇所結び、引合という紙に包み、柳筥に入れて、中を二箇所、柳筥の下から紐を通して結ぶのである。
歌の題などがあって短冊を贈るときは、一首二首でも、それぞれ別々に三つに折って、一つずつ包み、柳筥に入れて結ぶのである。

The dimensions of poetry cards (tanzaku) are: width one sun eight bu, length one shaku one sun five bu. However, regarding the length, a slight difference of two or three bu is acceptable. The width appears to have little variation. According to another theory, the width is one sun nine bu and the length is one shaku two sun.
When sending tanzaku paper to someone, stack however many sheets there are, tie the ends in two places with thin paper, wrap them in paper called "hikiawase," place them in a willow box, and tie by threading cord through the box from underneath in two places.
When there is a poetry theme and tanzaku are being sent, even for one or two poems, fold each separately into three parts, wrap each one individually, place them in a willow box, and tie them.
