味（あぢは）ひをしらざる也、 鰻（うなぎ）の樺焼（かばやき）
三串（みくし）か四（よ）くし、にくしと思（おも）はぬ
己（おの）が身（み）を、 捨売（すてうり）にして裸（はだか）
百貫（ひやつくはん）、 丈夫（ぜうぶ）につかつて五十 年（ねん）、
人間（にんげん）わづか二百孔（にひやくもん）の價（あたひ）に、
御壱人前（ごいちにんまへ）の命（めい）をあやまつ
は嘆（なげか）はしき事ならずや、予
頃日（このごろ）麻疹（はしか）に罹（かゝ）りて、 営生（えいせい）を
休（やむ）るの間（ひま）？、 箇（こ）の劇文（げきぶん）を著（あらは）し、
て、 題（だひ）するに、 来舶（たいはく）の書名（しよめい）を
借（か）り、 花陣（くはぢん）綺言（きげん）の響（ひゞ）きを
採（と）つて、 麻疹戯言（ましんきげん）と題号（だいごう）
現代語訳
味わいを知らないのである。鰻の蒲焼き三串か四串、憎いとも思わない自分の身を、安売りにして裸一貫百貫、丈夫に使って五十年、人間わずか二百文の値段で、お一人前の命を誤る
のは嘆かわしいことではないか。私は近頃麻疹にかかって、生業を休む間に、この戯作文を著し、題名には、舶来の書名を借り、花陣綺言の響きを採って、麻疹戯言と題号した
英語訳
one does not know the true taste. Three or four skewers of grilled eel—not thinking one's own body hateful, selling it cheaply for a hundred kan while naked, using it robustly for fifty years, yet for the mere price of two hundred mon, one endangers a full human life

Recently, having caught measles myself and taking time off from my livelihood, I have written this theatrical piece, borrowing the title from a foreign book and adopting the sound of "Kajin Kigen" (Elegant Words from the Flower Camp) to title it "Mashin Kigen" (Playful Words on Measles).
