（前ページより続き）……（黄道の線上に星が）見えるのである。東方朔が唱えた「五星天に径る」の説もはなはだ誤りである。古人の言であるとはいえ、誤りは用いるべきではない。後世の人々の疑いを解くために、その説をここに挙げる。

(Continued from the previous page)...the star becomes visible (on the line of the ecliptic). Dongfang Shuo's theory of the "five planets crossing the sky" is also greatly mistaken. Even though it is the words of an ancient sage, errors must not be followed. In order to dispel the doubts of later generations, I shall record his theory here.
Dongfang Shuo states:
When Jupiter crosses the sky, the five grains will not ripen, and the realm will suffer famine.
When Saturn crosses the sky, plagues and epidemics will spread widely, and oxen and horses will collapse in the streets.
When Mars crosses the sky, drought and great fires will break out across the realm.
When Mercury crosses the sky, great floods will occur and homes will be washed away.
When Venus crosses the sky, the hearts of the people will be discordant, and the realm will fall into the chaos of war, and so forth.
Taihakusei is another name for Venus (金星). As stated previously, over the course of two hundred forty days — encompassing both morning and evening appearances — sixty days are spent "crossing the sky." If one were to claim that warfare breaks out during this time, there would be no reason whatsoever for such a thing to occur in this age of such peace and prosperity as our present reign.
