（前ページより続き）……太白星（金星）以外に、天を径る星など決してないことである。そもそも水星は太陽に近い場所を巡行しているゆえ、明け方・夕べにさえ見ることは稀である。まして午の刻（正午ごろ）に見えるはずがあろうか。東方朔は自ら「木曜歳星の精である」と称した。それならば、己の身分に関わることとして、（木星が）天を径るかどうかも知らないとは、おかしなことである。また、仲間の星々の動きも知らないと見受けられる。
また、同じ人物（東方朔）が、四季の甲子（きのえね）の日の雨によって晴雨を論じたことも、当たっていない。その説もここに挙げる。
春の甲子の日に雨が降れば 赤地千里（旱魃が広がり大地が赤く荒れる）
夏の甲子の日に雨が降れば 木頭に菌（きのこ）が生える
秋の甲子の日に雨が降れば 牛や羊が凍え死ぬ
冬の甲子の日に雨が降れば 船に乗って市（まち）に入るほど洪水になると云々。

(Continued from the previous page)...other than Taihakusei (Venus), there are absolutely no stars that "cross the sky." To begin with, Mercury orbits so close to the sun that it is rarely visible even at dawn or dusk. How then could it possibly be seen at the hour of the Horse (around noon)? Dongfang Shuo himself claimed to be the spirit of Jupiter (the Wood Star). If that is so, it is quite absurd that he would not know whether his own planet crosses the sky or not. Moreover, it appears that he was also ignorant of the movements of the other planets, his fellow stars.
Furthermore, the same individual's (Dongfang Shuo's) theory of predicting fair or rainy weather based on rain falling on the day of Kinoe-ne (甲子, the first day of the sexagenary cycle) in each of the four seasons has also proven to be inaccurate. That theory is likewise recorded here:
If it rains on the day of Kinoe-ne in spring: the land will be scorched and barren for a thousand leagues (great drought).
If it rains on the day of Kinoe-ne in summer: mushrooms will grow on tree stumps.
If it rains on the day of Kinoe-ne in autumn: cattle and sheep will freeze to death.
If it rains on the day of Kinoe-ne in winter: people will board boats to enter the town (great flooding), and so forth.
