The Old Man Star (Canopus) is located within the field of the Well Mansion (Jingxiu/Iinoshuku), near the southern circumpolar region (the lower antarctic circle), which is likely the cause of this confusion. For those wishing to observe the Old Man Star, they should look at a point approximately seven to eight degrees due south, in a location with an unobstructed view to the south, at the time when the Well Mansion culminates (reaches the meridian).
