One: The third ring from the inside is the "supporting ring" (*yatoi no wa*). It is colored purple and divided into four equal parts. The South Pole, North Pole, and Equator are marked upon it. The summer solstice point of the Ecliptic is attached twenty-four degrees north of the Equator, and the winter solstice point is attached twenty-four degrees south of the Equator.
One: The fourth ring from the inside is the Equator (*Sekidō*/赤道). It is colored red, and the fields (*bunya*/分野) of the Twenty-Eight Lunar Mansions are apportioned upon it. The first degree of the Winnowing Basket (*Kisshuku*/箕宿) is aligned with the winter solstice and attached to the supporting ring, and the eighth degree of the Three Stars (*Sankishuku*/参宿) is aligned with the summer solstice and attached accordingly.
