…nevertheless, one can determine that it is in truth a land of thirty-five degrees (i.e., a location at thirty-five degrees latitude). The remaining matters shall be transmitted orally with the aid of diagrams. Those who have received this transmission may find themselves drawn into debate with persons of other schools, pressed into an argument, and swept along into following the other's lead. One must be well mindful of this and exercise caution: these matters must not be spoken of outside.

**Postface to the *Tenshō Wasetsu* (天象話説)**
The heavens and earth of today are not the heavens and earth of antiquity. When we gaze upward to observe the celestial phenomena and look downward to examine the geography of the land, if we attempt to discuss the heavens and earth of today through the framework of the heavens and earth of antiquity, the discrepancy will amount to a thousand *ri*. People today carelessly fail to reflect upon this, supposing that there is no difference between past and present in the matter of heaven and earth; they do nothing but idly taste the dregs left by the ancients and thereby consider themselves satisfied. How very great is their foolishness. I have long been fond of the study of Western astronomical phenomena (*seiyō tenshō no gaku*).
